The only way democracy will work is if citizens, young and old are active participants in voting. A government by the people, for the people just can 't work without the people..Like a car without a driver ,ademocracy without voters is just an object and has no motive power. When we don't vote we really don 't have the right to complain about bad roads, corrupt politicians and unfair reservations.... This could derail Governance that will be difficult to correct in future .It is easy to say that "One vote doesn't make a difference",but the reality is that every vote counts...As educated and responsible citizens it is our duty to vote....
A voluntary organisation has come forward to spread awareness among voters to realise the value of their vote, through the medium of cartoons.. Organised by 'Mass for Awareness', the exhibition aims to make voters realise the value of their vote through various indoor-outdoor cartoonexhibitions, seminars and roadshows.
Titled 'Sansad Par Hamla', the exhibition, part of the organisation's voter awareness campaign called "Vote For India", saw participation from cartoonists, writers, social workers, students, youth, teachers and citizens. The exhibition was inaugurated on Sunday evening jointly by MP Najma Heptulla, and Delhi Mayor Arti Mehra and saw presence of former CBI director Joginder Singh, and minister in Uttarakhand Government, P C Nailwal.
Dr Najma Heptulla said in her address that this is the time when every voter must think before casting their vote that whether the candidate deserves this vote or not. She also said that this effort done by cartoonist Neeraj Gupta is commendable because a cartoonist sensitise people through his or her cartoons. Ms Arti Mehra said that power of voting is a weapon in the hands of common people to change the scenario of the society as well as of the country. She also said that voting mark on the finger is a symbol of a responsible citizen... Cartoonist Neeraj Gupta said that he decided to do this exhibition because day by day people, particularly from urban, educated and middle class background are becoming more irresponsible towards their right to cast vote. They consider election as holiday but in reality election is the festival of democracy in which all must exercise their right to vote. Neeraj Gupta said that he will keep doing awareness drives in various parts of the country to make voters aware about the importance of their vote.
In Chandigarh a signature campaign was organised by the students of Punjab University 2 weeks ago... Nearly 150 students from different departments participated in the camp and joined hands to educate the youth on their voting rights.
Himani, a student of biotechnology, said: “We have received a better response than expected. The sole idea of the campaign is to make students aware of their voting rights.”
The campaign was launched instead of the march to be held at the Parliament Street on March 1, when the youth from across the country will take an oath to vote and fight against corruption and red-tapism.
Nipun, another student, said: “To vote is a matter of great responsibility. Youngsters must understand that every vote counts.”
Former PUTA president and member of the peace committee, Prof Manjit Singh said, “It is good to see students come forward on issues like voting. The youth have grown responsible.”
The Students' Council also plans to educate students on the importance of voting. Apart from organising awareness camps, the members also intend to meet students personally to spread awareness on the issue of voting........
Indian democracy which is considered as one of the most vibrant in the world is facing its great challenge. Politics is dominated by people with criminal records, corrupt elements, people who commit crimes against society like terrorism, immorality, moral policing, extortion, land grabbing etc. This has to end if the country has to be a better place to live for our children.... So go and cast your vote and make the difference..
